Call For Writers: May of Magnificent Musings 2020!
The 2020 May of Magnificent Musings Writing Competition is open! High school students are encouraged to write and submit original works for publication in Circa Magazine.
Full details below!
Why: First, second, and third place winners will be invited to a special event Page 158 Books
in June to read their work for others and gain recognition on the Magnificent Musings website.
The first place winner will be published in Circa magazine, the premier lifestyle magazine of Wake County.
We are extraordinarily fortunate to offer these awards to our winners, as publication in such a far-reaching magazine and reading events are extremely rare opportunities for high school students. We can not thank our sponsors enough for their generosity and support for the writing community.
Who: High school students (grades 9-12 or equivalent for homeschool). Writers and non-writers alike are encouraged to write! The quality of your writing is not as important as the quality and originality of your ideas.
What: Writing competition to highlight original thought and reflection on any topic of the writer's choosing. Format can be reflective essay, poem, prose, literary criticism, etc. Anything is fair game! The content of the piece must be respectful to all groups, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, just to name a few.
How: Create an account by pressing "Log-in" at the top right of this page. Then go to the "Contact" page and send us a message including information about you. This may include your name, where you are from, writing interests, etc. Please include a correct email address so we can contact you once we have reviewed your message and added you as a writer.
After this, write away! Go to "Posts" and create a post on the website. The piece can be about anything as long as it is reflective, original, and respectful. Multiple submissions are allowed, but keep in mind that one high-quality post will be valued higher than multiple low-quality posts.
There is no length requirement, but we recommend that your post be no longer than a seven minute read (the website tells you how long the read is at the top of the post).
To demonstrate your ability to think critically, we ask that you read and comment on at least two (2) other posts by your peers. In order to be chosen as a winner, this must be done. We will be looking for your ability to communicate about others' ideas in a manner that respectfully critiques or extends them.
Sit back and relax!
When: The deadline for a submission is May 31st, 2020. Late submissions (either posts or comments) will not be accepted. Winners will be announced in early June.
The reading event will also occur in June at Page 158 Bookstore. We will work with winners to ensure it will fit with their schedules.
